Rugby Sevens at the 29th SEA Games 2017

Rugby lovers across Asia are in the grip of Rugby-fever as the “29th SEA Games” is going to feature both men’s and women team of rugby 7s. Rugby 7’s is probably the most fiercely competed of all the rugby formats and that’s a big reason why it attracts a huge crowd during the matches. Rugby 7’s is even a part of the Olympics and all the major rugby playing nations participate in it. Rugby 7’s game is played by 7 players in each team, instead of the usual 15 players. The time allotted for each half consist of only 7 minutes instead of the regular 40 minutes. The shorter format and lesser number of players give a very interesting twist to the traditional Rugby game.

Rugby Sevens has become extremely popular form of Rugby in Asia and almost all the major Rugby playing nations in Asia compete at big events like the SEA Games 2017. Not only the number of players or the time allotted for each half, Rugby Sevens is even different in terms of the rules. In this game only 5 reserves are allowed during every game and they can be used for making 5 substitutions. However, the biggest twist is that here a player is permitted to re-enter even when he/she has been substituted. The game is fast moving and all the rule changes have been made to make it more interesting and appealing to the players as well as the Rugby enthusiasts.

The 29th SEA Games 2017 will be held in Malaysia and it would include both the men’s as well as the women team. All the games are slated to be played at the below mentioned venue:

The World Rugby administers and maintains the Rugby Sevens along with the Rugby Union worldwide. This game is extremely popular among both the professional as well as the amateurs. The club and amateur tournaments are usually held during the summer and this time at the 29th SEA Games 2017, some renowned Rugby Sevens players are going to participate. Even though the Rugby Sevens has been immensely popular among the rugby enthusiasts in America, Europe and Africa but the zeal shown by the Asian Rugby players is beyond all imaginations. They have in fact taken to this game like fish to water!
